The next meeting of the Fulshear Book Club will take place on Monday, Jan. 12, in the meeting room at Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library.
The book to be discussed is “Harvesting the Heart” by Jodi Picoult.
This second novel by Picoult follows the hopes and dreams of a young Irish-Catholic girl, Paige O’Toole, whose mother abandons her at a very early age. Paige’s feelings of self-doubt overshadow her efforts to become an artist, and they are magnified during her marriage to a struggling young medical student when her wealthy socialite in-laws disapprove of her and disown their son.
The birth of her own child brings these feelings to a climax and Paige leaves everything to find her mother and discover the answers to all the questions that have plagued her through the years.
This contemporary novel, told in flashbacks, paints a realistic picture of childhood, adolescence, and the struggles of young motherhood and social acceptance.
The meeting begins at noon. Anyone interested in joining the literary-review club is invited to attend and bring a lunch along, if desired.
