The next meeting of the Fulshear Book Club will take place on Monday, Dec. 15, at noon in the meeting room of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library in Fulshear.
The book to be discussed is Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey’s “A Woman of Independent Means.”
An instant bestseller when it was published in 1978, this book was partially based on the life of the author’s grandmother. Written in the form of letters, “A Woman of Independent Means” portrays an unusual woman and the three very different men in her life.
The novel follows feminist Bess Steed Garner’s life from the early 1900s through the 1960s. The tremendous social changes that occurred in this 69-year span are reflected in the ever-evolving personality and character of Bess, who is gradually transformed from a sheltered, privileged child into a competent, independent woman of the 20th century.
Anyone interested in joining the literary review club is invited to attend and bring a lunch along, if desired.
