The first-ever Missouri City Trout Fest will take place at American Legion Park on Jan. 17.

The new event, sponsored by the Missouri City Parks and Recreation Department, will run from 9 – 11 a.m. It will give anglers of all ages a chance to take advantage of colder water temperatures when the Texas Department stocks several area lakes with trout.

Participants need to bring their own fishing equipment. The Missouri City Parks and Recreation Department will provide bait while it lasts.

There is no need to pre-register, but participants must sign up at the park on the day of the event. Prizes will be awarded for the largest trout caught that day.

All fishing regulations remain in effect for this event. Texas Parks and Wildlife does not require a fishing license for anyone under the age of 17 or any person age 78 or older.

For more information, call 281-403-8500 or visit www.missouricitytx.gov and click on "Parks and Recreation" under the "Government" tab.
