Rosenberg's Macario Garcia Park will get a nearly $20,000 facelift after recent action by Rosenberg City Council.

The park, at 718 Blume Road, will see completion of a walking path and installation of four benches on the path. Also, the city will install a bicycle rack, two grills, a new water foutain, soccer goals and nets, playground safety surfacing and a kiosk including trail and park information.

Also, the council included fencing on the park's north side as part of the improvements, recommended by the Rosenberg Police Department.

Cost of the improvements is estimated at $19,768; Parks Director Darren McCarthy told countil there was just over $20,000 available in the city's Parkland Dedication Fund for parks in the city's Zone 2, where Macario Garcia Park is located.

The Parkland Dedication Fund increases as development increases in the city. An ordinance requires residential developers to contribute either land or money toward the city park system. Money from that requirement then flows into the dedication fund.
